Cross-device paste is now table stakes. The difference is what your clipboard can become after that.
WeChat Input Method is a strong option if your only need is to paste something you just copied on another device. Its store listing says it supports Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, including cross-device copy and paste.1
That is useful progress for everyone. It also means UniClipboard cannot compete on the sentence "we sync your clipboard." That is a baseline now.
The more useful question is: what should a clipboard product do once copying between two devices already works?
An input method and a clipboard solve different problems. An input method is where you write; a clipboard is where the things you collect, move, and reuse live.
Many people already have a keyboard they prefer: Microsoft Pinyin, the macOS keyboard, Rime, Sogou, Gboard, the iPhone keyboard, or something else. Switching that habit just to gain clipboard sync is a real cost.
UniClipboard works beside the keyboard you already use. Copy and paste continue to use the system shortcuts you know. The app takes care of moving the clipboard between your devices.
Keep your keyboard. Sync your clipboard.
Passing the latest copy from a computer to a phone is one job. Finding a link, code snippet, screenshot, address, or file that you copied two days ago is another.
UniClipboard is built around that second job too. It keeps an encrypted, searchable history on each device, with previews for text, links, images, code, and files. You can control how long history is kept, clear it by device or content type, and review where an item came from.
That changes the model from "send my last copy" to one clipboard across the devices where you work.
WeChat Input Method's store listing names Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.1 UniClipboard also supports Linux, alongside macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
For many people, that is not a niche detail. A workflow may include a Mac laptop, a Windows work computer, a Linux desktop or server, and a phone. Clipboard sync should not stop where the operating-system list does.
Clipboards regularly hold passwords, access tokens, commands, internal links, customer details, verification codes, and files. For that reason, how content moves matters as much as whether it arrives.
UniClipboard pairs devices without requiring a cloud account. On the same Wi-Fi, paired devices can connect directly. Across networks, it tries a direct connection first and uses an encrypted relay only when needed. LAN-only mode lets you turn the relay path off entirely. Content is encrypted before it leaves the source device and decrypted only on your devices.
This is not a claim about how another product handles clipboard data. It is a promise about a model you can understand, inspect, and choose: your devices, encrypted content, and a direct path whenever it is available.
"Open source" is not a reason for everyone to choose an app. It matters a great deal when the app can see sensitive material.
UniClipboard is open source under AGPL-3.0. Its code, protocol decisions, and security design can be examined rather than taken on faith. For developers, security-conscious teams, and people who operate their own infrastructure, that creates a meaningful choice.
Clipboard sync should not be limited to text. UniClipboard already moves text, images, and files, and streams large files so they do not need to fit in memory all at once.
WeChat Input Method has also begun testing image and file transfer through its "Air Transfer" feature, according to Sina Finance.2 That makes "we support files" a less durable headline by itself.
The opportunity is broader: make clipboard and lightweight device-to-device transfer feel like one continuous action. Copy a screenshot on one device and find it in another device's history. Copy a file and paste it where you need it. The product should make moving work between devices feel ordinary, not like a separate sharing ritual.
Not every device in a person's life belongs together. A personal Mac and phone may need one shared clipboard; a work Windows machine may need another.
This is the direction behind a device network made of intentional spaces: personal, work, home, team, or temporary. Instead of treating every device logged into one account as an automatic member, the owner decides which devices can see each other.
WeChat Input Method is a convenient input method with cross-device paste. UniClipboard is a dedicated clipboard for people who want to keep their input method while gaining history, Linux support, direct encrypted transfer, inspectable software, and a clipboard that can grow with their device workflow.
Cross-device copy and paste is the starting point. The goal is a clipboard built for all your devices.
